A nursing union leader has vowed to “work within the parameters of the law” as the Government launched a legal challenge to proposed strike action. NHS employers had asked Health Secretary Steve Barclay to check if the strike action was legal as the RCN’s six-month mandate to strike finishes in May. The Government claims the mandate expires on 2 May, the final day of the walkout, but RCN says it is after this.show: “If nursing is defeated then it is in my mind, and in our nurses’ minds, an even darker day for this Government.

Members of the Royal College of Nursing have been striking over pay and patient safety for NHS staff, with the union calling the strike from 30 April – including nurses in emergency departments, intensive care, cancer wards and other wards.
