NYC ends heat emergency, but 90-degree temperatures are forecast later this week

New York City ended its official heat emergency on Monday, as temperatures cooled after an intense heat wave enshrouded the region over the past several days.

But they’re expected to climb again to above-normal levels starting on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service and city officials. That rise in temperatures and humidity could be followed by showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning. NWS meteorologist James Tomasini said that although the forecast calls for a “drier” climate on Monday afternoon, Tuesday and Wednesday will likely record temperatures in the low- to mid-90s. Temperatures are anticipated to drop again on Friday, when conditions could also be dry.is over because temperatures no longer exceed 90 degrees for three or more consecutive days.
