The New York City corrections department will be ready if former President Donald Trump is jailed for violating the gag order in his hush-money trial, Mayor Eric Adams said Tuesday.

“We have to adjust to whatever comes our way,” Mr. Adams, a Democrat, said at his regular press briefing. “We don’t want to deal with a hypothetical, but they’re professionals. They’ll be ready.” State Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan found Mr. Trump in contempt Monday for a 10th violation of the gag order and threatened to throw him in jail for future infractions.
Asked if city officials have discussed what to do if Mr. Trump is sent to Rikers Island, the mayor said: “Yes, we have.” The gag order prevents Mr. Trump from opining on jurors, potential witnesses and certain court staff.Mr. Trump says the gag order is unconstitutional and restrains him while he runs for president.
