protests in the wake of George Floyd's death at the hands of white policeman, Derek Chauvin. Decrying racism and police brutality, Rowan's photographs document one of the many protests happening worldwide since Floyd's harrowing killing on 25th May.
"These images were shot in New York City during the protests, ranging from Harlem 125th street, down to Union Square. It's a collection of images, showing the outrage and impact of America's systematic racism, of course taking form in the recent passing of George Floyd. Although I do not condone violence, the story told in these images remains peaceful, yet powerful," commented the photographer.
"Although I have typically been a fashion photographer, I saw a chance to tell a story that I've typically had the luxury of avoiding because I simply felt it wasn't my place. However, we all bear this burden, whether we face that or not, which dawned on me as I observed voices of courage, empathy, power and justice taking the streets of New York City yesterday."
