NYPD: Officers shot and killed pit bull that mauled its owner to death
Police said they shot and killed a pit bull early Friday morning after the canine reportedly mauled its owner to death in an apartment in the Bronx.
According to NYPD officials, officers were called to a building on Simpson Street in Longwood at around 3 a.m. The 911 caller stated that the dog was biting its owner— a 41-year-old man. The responding officers saw the dog attacking the man and both discharged their firearms, according to police officials. The dog was struck multiple times, and died at the scene.
The man was pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital, police said.
