Recent LinkedIn profile changes by a Virtuos technical art director have fueled rumors of an Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake in development. The update, quickly removed, suggested a PS5/XSX/PC remake being built using Unreal Engine 5. This follows previous claims from a purported former Virtuos employee who stated the studio was working on an Oblivion remake codenamed 'Altar' using a combination of Unreal Engine 5 and the original Oblivion engine.

A technical art director at Virtuos recently updated their LinkedIn profile, sparking new Oblivion remake speculation after a former Virtuos employee claimed that the studio was working on the project in 2023. If you'd like another run through The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion achievements, this remake would give the experience a fresh coat of paint, as the Xbox RPG remake is reportedly being developed using Unreal Engine 5.

“For instance, new graphics are rendered in the Unreal Engine 5 project, but most of the gameplay, physics, etc are still done in Oblivion ,” the user said. At the time, the user claimed that the remake was in development at Virtuos' Paris studio, but they also weren't sure if it would be a remake or remaster so it could have been early days for the project, which now might be in the hands of the Shanghai team.
