Low-income households eligible for winter support have been informed that this year the payments will be made automatically. Those who qualify for the Warm Home Discount scheme from their energy supplier will see £150 deducted from their energy bills during a single period between October and March.
Energy companies will determine eligibility by looking at both the household's financial situation and energy expenses. Nonetheless, not every claimant of benefits such as Universal Credit, Income Support or Housing Benefits will qualify for the discount. The exact timing of the discount is at the discretion of the energy suppliers and could occur at any point from October to March. Qualifying individuals will receive letters detailing the process.
