State lawmakers hope to change that with a potential new bill.
CINCINNATI - As Ohio moves closer to the first legal sale of recreational marijuana, there are still questions over how police can tell if someone’s driving under the influence.A new law led by a former Cincinnati cop is looking to give police the latest technology: the ability to test right on the side of the road if someone's driving under the influence.
Kober hopes that a bill in the Ohio House will ease some of those challenges. Lawmakers are looking to bring rapid saliva tests to police cruisers across the state. Police would get the results back 24 hours later, and they would be able to tell how much marijuana was in someone's system. Kober said the results are a lot more specific than current tests, showing how much weed someone has actually smoked.
“While marijuana has been legalized in Ohio, we want to make sure people are safe,” said Ohio State Rep. Adam Mathews.
