The Ohio delegation to the 2024 DNC is missing not only some A-list officeholders, but candidates openly preparing to run for higher office.

CHICAGO—Delegation breakfasts during national political conventions can be an indicator of which candidates are laying the groundwork to seek higher office in the next cycle.But at the 2024 Democratic National Convention, which kicked off here Monday, the Ohio delegation breakfast had some notable absences.
Rather, the Ohio Democrats brought to Chicago a cluster of mid-level star power. Monday’s breakfast featured speeches from mayors and state lawmakers . Some of these lower-level officials may explore a statewide run in two years – Ohio Democratic Chair Liz Walters teasingly told reporters that some unnamed potential 2026 hopefuls were at Monday’s breakfast – but none so far have actually declared a run for higher office.
But Brown himself won’t be attending the DNC at all, saying he’ll spend this week instead campaigning in Ohio. Antonio also indicated that she’s open to running for some statewide office in 2026, when she’s term-limited in the Senate, though she didn’t say which office she’s looking at. “Everything is wide open,” she said.
