Northeast Ohio's best are expected to go down and make a major splash in Dayton at this weekend's state track and field meet.
Lakewood senior Kaydence Doxley enters the OHSAA state track and field meet as a favorite in the long jump after a fourth place finish in 2023,CLEVELAND, Ohio – A handful of area athletes head into this weekend’s OHSAA Division I state track and field meet with targets on their backs.
With boys and girls from over 270 Division I schools in attendance, ascending to the top of the state podium will not be easy, but neither was making it to the state tournament in the first place. With 24 running and 10 field state golds up for grabs in each division, the 116th annual boys and 49th annual girls track and field state championships will make for a memorable weekend in Columbus.. The Division I meet begins Friday at 2 p.m. with the girls and boys 4x800 finals.
On the boys’ side Elyria senior Mateo Medina has the chance to win the 100, 200 and 400 triple crown. He comes in with the state’s fastest time in each of the three events, but even if he doesn’t win all three he can put the Pioneers near the front of the team race with high placements.
