The Department of Social Welfare and Development said it provided P34.4 million worth of cash and food packs to families affected by the oil spill in Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, and Antique. | JEMendozaINQ

Some P16 million worth of assistance in the form of emergency cash transfers and P18.4 million worth of food packs were distributed to residents of Caluya town in Antique province; Agutaya in Palawan; and Bongabong in Oriental Mindoro, according to the DSWD.It added a total of 21,152 and 6,600 family food packs were distributed in Mimaropa and Western Visayas, respectively.

On February 28, MT Princess Empress sank off Naujan town in Oriental Mindoro. The fuel tanker was carrying 800,000 liters of industrial fuel. An oil spill ensued, affecting towns in Mindoro and threatening marine life.
