Friends and family members are being urged to help older people check if they should claim the income boost.
The Department for Work and Pensions is urging older people, their friends and family members not to miss a deadline next week which could see them missing out on this year’s Winter Fuel Payment. New claims for Pension Credit made by December 21, which later turn out to be successful, will also be entitled to a backdated Winter Fuel Payment.
The DWP is also deploying 500 extra staff to process applications as quickly as possible - the current processing time is around 60 working days.
