The Oldham Coliseum gets a repreieve after a campaign led by actor Julie Hesmondhalgh.
Oldham's Coliseum theatre, which closed amid an outcry in 2023 after more than 135 years, is to reopen after a successful campaign to save it, led by actor Julie Hesmondhalgh.
The Coliseum was forced to close after Arts Council England withdrew its funding because of concerns over its management, while the local council said the building was "no longer fit for purpose". She paid tribute to the local council for being "willing to listen to the residents of its town and having the humility to change their minds".
"It's more about where people's emotions are and what they feel connected to, and I think you have to acknowledge that," she said.Work is due to start so the venue can stage a pantomime at Christmas 2025
