Miguel Oliveira shares his wisdom on transitioning to a new MotoGP bike, emphasizing the mental and technical challenges involved. As he prepares for his move to Pramac Yamaha in 2025, Oliveira discusses the importance of adapting riding style and exploring the bike's limits to maximize performance.

Miguel Oliveira has shared his insights into the crucial adjustments riders need to make when transitioning to a new MotoGP bike, a process he will personally embark on in 2025 with his move to Pramac Yamaha . Oliveira's journey to Pramac marks a significant chapter in his career, as he joins the team for its inaugural season as Yamaha's official satellite partner.

Having spent the last two years competing on an Aprilia with both RNF and Trackhouse Racing, Oliveira will be back on track this week at the Sepang pre-season test to further familiarize himself with the Yamaha M1.Having previously experienced the challenges of switching bikes, moving from KTM to Aprilia in 2023, Oliveira emphasizes the importance of a balanced approach to adaptation. 'I would tell you that it is technical but it is also mental,' he acknowledges. 'One of the things you should never look for is trying to replicate what you had before.' He explains that getting caught up in trying to recreate familiar sensations can be detrimental, leading riders down a path of searching for an unattainable feeling.Oliveira stresses the need to find a middle ground, suggesting riders adapt their riding style to the new bike rather than striving to make the bike conform to their existing preferences. 'Sometimes you need to meet halfway and try to adapt your riding style more, than trying to get the bike closer to you,' he advises. Technical adaptations are also crucial, requiring riders to explore the bike's limits and learn new techniques. 'I would say, technically if the bike doesn’t allow you to do things then you will need to learn them, you need to explore what the limit of the bike is in certain areas to get it to the maximum,' he concludes.Oliveira has been pleasantly surprised by the Yamaha's strong front-end performance compared to his Aprilia experience. The cornering prowess, a characteristic often praised about the Yamaha, has particularly impressed him, describing it as 'really good, really nice.' He notes the 'good, solid, stable front,' which he found to be a welcome change. While acknowledging areas for improvement in terms of top speed and braking points, Oliveira remains optimistic about the direction of his progress. He is eager to test the latest version of the Yamaha at Sepang, considering it a 'nice step' from his initial experience at Barcelona.
