Just a stone's throw from the glitz and the glamour, locals say they live in 'a different world'
Blackpool is known for its glitz and glamour. The world famous illuminations have pulled in celebrities and tourists alike for decades.
On the corner of Simpson Street lies South Shore Convenience Store. Owned by Huso Kaplan, he says he won't let his staff walk home at night down the back streets. Huso tells us that in recent months he has had a knife pulled on him by a child who was part of a group of kids had stolen from his shop. He partly blames himself for confronting them.
He recalled how he a shop lifter he had confronted had attacked him with a glass bottle. He said: "I'd gone after this shop lifter and he'd hit me over the head with a bottle. It cracked the back of my head open." Four years on from the stores departure, the building remains dilapidated, covered in rotting plywood in an attempt to keep trespassers out. The corner plot is one of may buildings along Bond Street which are in desperate need of attention. Another Bond Street business owner, Elaine Summersgill said she reckons that to those not from the area, it just looks like another derelict Blackpool back street, not one that would attract visitors.
