Andre Onana was brought in by Man United this summer following David de Gea's departure
David de Gea left some huge boots to fill at Manchester United this summer as Andre Onana was welcomed to the club.
The signing of Onana was met with plenty of excitement as United supporters had long since recognised the need for a goalkeeper who was comfortable playing out from the back. After a 2-0 loss to Tottenham in the following game, he then let in two against Nottingham Forest, with the first a particularly soft goal to concede. Of course, his ability to play out from the back has been on display for all to see, but with seven goals conceded in just four Premier League games and only six points on the board, were United right to replace De Gea with Onana?
While Onana has conceded the same number of goals in his first four league games for United as De Gea did in the first four games of last season, the former Inter Milan goalkeeper has had to contend with a number of injuries in the defence ahead of him. United's backline was hardly a settled one at the start of the 2022/23 season, but a lot of that was due to tactical changes made by Ten Hag as opposed to an injury crisis.
