Salt Lake City police have identified and arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with a shooting that occurred in the Poplar Grove neighborhood.
Officers of the Salt Lake City Police Department said they responded to reports of a shooting at 1054 W. 300 S. on April 6, where they found a man with gunshot wounds to his left arm and right leg. The victim, who was uncooperative with police, stated that the shooter was driving a black sedan. Shortly after, University of Utah Hospital staff notified authorities that another male, identified as Luis Alfaro, had arrived with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Alfaro, a documented gang member, told officers he was at a car meet near a freeway overpass when several people began shooting.Detectives obtained a search warrant for Alfaro's Instagram account and found messages where he admitted to engaging in a fight and being shot by a rifle, then shooting at the individual who shot him.
Video surveillance from Franklin Elementary School captured the shooting, showing Alfaro running to a black vehicle and then back to the other man's vehicle while appearing to have been shooting at the driver's window.He was arrested on May 25 on charges of aggravated assault, felony discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice, and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person.
