The latest Victorian crime data shows police responded to a record 96,000 family violence incidents.

Police are called to one family violence incident every six minutes in Victoria, with new crime data showing they also arrest three perpetrators every hour.for the 12 months to the end of March were released and showed total female victim reports rose for homicides , assaults and sexual offences .

The crime victimisation rate for women was 2937.1 per 100,000 people in the year to March 2024, up 6.1 per cent from last year but down 3.3 per cent from March 2014. By comparison, the male victimisation rate is 3585.6 per 100,000.The latest Crime Statistics Agency data does not provide a further gender-based breakdown of victimisation rates for individual violent offences, such as assault.

Crime Statistics Agency chief statistician Fiona Dowsley said Thursday’s data also showed the impact of another major national issue: the cost of living.
