Neuroscientist Matt Walker has shared his top tips for falling asleep, including a simple breathing exercise that can be done in one minute to help combat the 'epidemic' of poor sleeping
A neuroscientist has proposed a straightforward one-minute exercise to help people fall asleep quicker and tackle the "epidemic" of poor sleep.
"Try to do that for maybe a minute or two. Two minutes is actually quite long to do that but it will really push the nervous system into a state of quiescence rather than that flight or fight response.", reports Surrey Live. "Avoid looking at the clock, remove all clock faces from your line of sight. Clock watching will only increase stress and anxiety about not falling asleep and it will make it harder to get to sleep initially," Matt advised.
In addition to discussing effective sleep strategies, Matt also expressed his concern over what he perceives as a widespread issue of poor sleep quality. He stated: "We are seeing this epidemic of the tired but wired phenomenon. People are so tired but they're so wired they can't fall asleep."
