DWP wants people to get in touch by December 21
The Department for Work and Pensions is urging people to get in touch within the next month, or risk missing out on a cash boost of up to £300. Many eligible individuals could be overlooking a benefit that provides additional financial support, as well as qualifying them for this year's Winter Fuel Payment. These payments were launched in 1997 to assist older people with their winter heating costs, and until recently gave all pensioners a lump sum each winter.
In addition to having your income topped up, and being eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment, those who receive Pension Credit can gain access to other benefits and freebies. These include a free TV licence if you're aged 75 or over, Housing Benefit if you rent your home, support for mortgage interest if you own your home, council tax discounts, help with heating costs through the Warm Home Discount Scheme, and a discount on the Royal Mail redirection service if you're moving house.
