The Environment Agency had 213 flood alerts and 100 flood warnings in place in England on Monday evening
A “severe flooding incident” at a West Sussex holiday park has left one person hospitalised with hypothermia, after a river burst its banks triggering emergency rescue operations.
It said anyone requiring lifesaving intervention should dial 999 to contact the fire and rescue service or the Coastguard urging residents to “avoid the area and remain in your homes where possible to allow our crews to work safely”. ⚠️Multiple crews are currently dealing with an incident of severe flooding at Medmerry holiday park between Bracklesham and Selsey.
Met Office forecaster Simon Partridge said that while these levels of rainfall would not be a “huge cause for concern” on their own, they will fall onto “already saturated ground” which increases the risk of flooding. On the Great Western Railway, flooding between Clifton Down and Severn Beach means all lines are closed as water has risen above the tracks on the branch line.
Mr Partridge added: “We’ll continue with very unsettled weather as we head into spring, which is usually when we start to see things settle down a little bit more.
