Luffy crying in the One Piece anime
Summary If there's one thing One Piece does better than most series out there, it is creating tear-jerking backstories that make the characters exponentially more likable. Although the series has many amazing backstories, one beloved character with an already tragic past could have gotten an even more shocking flashback.
As the writer of the film, Oda initially wanted the main plot to revolve around the birth of Nami but later revised it to a more action-packed story because of how shocking Nami's past was. Although the initial plot for the movie was changed, Nami was still very integral. Golden Lion Shiki, a former Rocks pirate, kidnaps Nami in order to make her his crew's navigator.
There's Still A Lot Unknown About Nami Close Although Nami's tragic childhood was already revealed at the beginning of the series, there is nothing saying that her past can't be revisited again. The best case is Sanji, where the first flashback was his life with Zeff, and the second was his childhood in the Vinsmoke family. Luffy's childhood was also revisited, where his relationship with Sabo and Ace was properly fleshed out to make viewers understand the weight of his loss.
