Chinese AI firms, including Baidu and Zhipu AI, seize the opportunity with free tokens and migration services following OpenAI’s China ban.At last week’s World AI Conference in Shanghai, SenseTime, a leading Chinese AI firm, unveiled its latest model, SenseNova 5.5.
SenseTime’s launch of SenseNova 5.5 is part of their plan to attract users by giving away 50 million free tokens. They will also provide staff to help new clients switch from OpenAI to their services for free. This move aims to attract developers, especially with the recent changes in OpenAI’s services in China.OpenAI, a leading entity in generative AI, has recently notified its users in China that they would be blocked from accessing its tools and services starting July 9.
Previously, developers in China could use OpenAI’s tools through virtual private networks, even though ChatGPT was blocked by the government. Now, with OpenAI blocking access from the U.S. side, Chinese developers are urgently looking for alternatives.
