The ChatGPT maker asked a law firm to look at what led the company to abruptly fire Mr Altman in November, only to rehire him days later.
Elon Musk has sued OpenAI alleging the company is betraying its founding mission in pursuit of profits.
OpenAI also announced it had added three women to its board of directors: Sue Desmond-Hellman, a former CEO of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; Nicole Seligman, a former Sony general counsel; and Instacart CEO Fidji Simo. He also was kicked off the board, along with its chairman, Greg Brockman, who then quit his job as company president.
