Queensland's Liberal National Party has accepted a $17,500 donation from a party official alleged to have assaulted a young Indigenous woman and her husband. Former Barron River MP and LNP regional chairman Michael Trout is currently facing assault charges following an incident at a suburban home at Holloways Beach on May 17.
The 60-year-old is alleged to have assaulted Cairns locals Leah Kawane, 23, and her husband Jessie Howie, 32.The records show that, on July 29, the LNP accepted a "non-political" donation from Mr Trout.David Crisafulli says Mr Trout has stood down from party duties."Mr Trout has stood aside from all duties in the party and there is a court case to determine his guilt or innocence," Mr Crisafulli said.
Premier Steven Miles said it would depend on the circumstances, but he would "probably" return the money if it were an issue within the Labor Party.
