Based on the responses we received, it’s clear that cloud transformation projects show no sign of abating. But even for organizations that have traveled some distance on their cloud journey, there is always room for improvement and reassessment.
Deploying applications across multiple regions and availability zones can present a wealth of opportunity, bolstering availability, enhancing general resilience and preventing single points of failure. But even beyond these benefits, it serves as a valuable exercise in refining and validating the organization's proficiency in deploying and redeploying code—a critical aspect of modern software development.
This regular assessment should include fundamental aspects such as identity management policies, data encryption strategies and network access controls, as well as more big-picture considerations, such as the potential adoption of a zero-trust architecture framework. Organizations should also ensure that they have a swift response plan in place for potential data or network breaches.
One major cloud services provider recently leveraged an alternative processor that offers significant potential cost savings in certain regions. Another major storage provider introduced a new storage solution that could enhance data life cycle management and improve input/output operations per second at a reduced cost. Depending on your storage and computing needs, these design pivots can be made quite easily, resulting in savings with little to no tradeoffs.
