Canelo floored Ryder in round five, but did not knock him outThe fight began with early dominance for Canelo, who appeared to break Ryder’s nose within three rounds.
Some had speculated that the champion may try to keep this fight at range so as to neutralise the challenger’s desire to box on the inside, but both men remained happy to slug it out at close quarters.Ryder was knocked down by a hurtful one-two in round five, but made it back to his feet and battled on.Towards the end of the fight, Canelo slowed as he appeared tired and ultimately won a clear unanimous decision.
