Donald Trump brought a national audience to the controversy over immigration in the Ohio city about 45 minutes west of Columbus.
With that unsupported assertion,
"This is all about getting attention to Springfield. Ohio," said central Ohio GOP political strategist Bob Clegg. "That's what it's about, okay? That's all it's about. And you know what? He got a lot of attention to Springfield, Ohio tonight." Clegg's view: "It's not gonna change anything. Everything is pretty much the way it was in October . That's even with everything that's occurred."While both men agreed that Trump has Ohio locked up, they differed on the impact on the challenge of longtime Democratic U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown by Republican Bernie Moreno.
That means Brown would have to get tens of thousands of Trump voters to split their ticket -- a growing rarity in these politically polarized times.Clay disagrees: "Former President Trump is definitely going to win the state of Ohio. There's no question about that. But at the same time, I don't think that he's going to go over his eight point margin that he's had in the last two elections.
