‘Our gun laws will change’ in wake of New Zealand terror attacks, says prime minister

Ms Ardern said: ‘New Zealanders will question how someone can come into being in possession of weapons of this nature.

She added: ‘There are a raft of issues on the table that I think we need to look at. We need to include modification of guns which can lead them to becoming essentially the kinds of weapons we’ve seen used in this terrorist attack.’The gunman is said to have used five weapons during the atrocities, including two semi-automatic weapons and two shotguns, which had been modified.

Tarrant lived in Dunedin, on New Zealand’s South Island, and was a member of the Bruce Rifle Club, according to local reports. The AR-15 is a semi-automatic version of the United States military M16 rifle. The minimum legal age to own a gun in New Zealand is 16, or 18 for military-style semi-automatic weapons.
