A grass fire in the NSW Central West has reached emergency level during a day of extreme fire danger.

Loading Facebook contentof Crookwell, is being fanned in an easterly direction by strong winds.

The Upper Lachlan Area is today experiencing extreme fire danger conditions, with a total fire ban in place across the Southern Ranges.Fire bombers are being brought in from Sydney to try and slow the spread of the blaze.Homes in the areas of Craigs Road and Taralga Road are being affected. People in the Curraweela area between Craigs and Jerrong Roads are advised it is too late to leave and they should seek shelter.
