More than 1,000 motorists have been fined for various traffic violations during the first three days of the implementation of the single-ticketing system in Metro Manila, San Juan Mayor and Metro Manila Council (MMC) Francis Zamora said Monday.
“Dito po sa San Juan, over 100 violators. Sa ibang lungsod, more or less a total of 1,000 in the first three days,” said Zamora in a radio interview.
Zamora reiterated that the initial rollout conducted in the cities of Muntinlupa, San Juan, Valenzuela, Parañaque, and Quezon City was “successful". He previously said the MMC is eyeing its full implementation in the National Capital Region in “a couple of weeks”. “Ang hinihintay na lang natin ay ang pag-customize ng gadgets per city at ‘yan ay sa tulong ng MMDA sapagkat sila ang magbabayad ng ating mga handheld devices,” he added.
The pilot implementation of the single-ticketing system started on May 2. It aims to establish a uniform policy on traffic violations and the penalty system in Metro Manila. The Metro Manila Traffic Code of 2023, which serves as the guideline for the system, includes penalties for the following traffic violations:
