The Scotland captain has acted as a mentor for the rising Anfield star.
Playing for your boyhood club is every football fan’s dream. But when your team is Liverpool, that dream is far more difficult to achieve.
“He’s my idol and, for me, he’s the best left-back in the world. I try to take as much out of his game and put it into mine. It’s all about learning from the best, so anything I can take from him I know it will make my game better. There were mixed emotions when I went back to Liverpool in January. I was made up to be going back to Anfield and being in and around the first team.
“To make my Premier League debut for the club I’ve supported my whole life – it’s a moment I’ll cherish forever. Obviously Liverpool have Robbo and Kostas Tsimikas coming back from injury. “I came to Dundee off the back of two loans that didn’t work out for me. I had no real first-team exposure but I’m happy with how it panned out. The manager has put his trust in me and I’ll remember that forever.”
He said: “I speak to Bobby a good bit. He’s a top lad and came on when I made my Premier League debut. I was made up for him to see him play in the League Cup Final. He deserves it and has a great career ahead of him.”
