A violent altercation involving machetes on Oxford Street in London early on New Year's Day left one man seriously injured. Authorities are appealing for witnesses and any footage of the incident.

Oxford Street descended into chaos in the early hours of New Year's Day after two men were caught squaring off with large knives. Cops were called to the busy thoroughfare just after 3am following reports of the violent altercation. One man suffered what paramedics described as a catastrophic bleed and was rushed to a trauma centre. A large crime scene was established as officers conducted a forensic examination of the area - with Bond Street Tube station closed.

A witness at the scene said: “It was terrifying—people were screaming and running. The area was swarming with police and paramedics within minutes.” The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that no arrests have been made so far, and they are working to trace the individuals involved. A police spokesperson said: “We were called to Oxford Street at 3:05 a.m. to reports of a fight involving machetes. One man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.
