The decision follows a period when the Pa. Historical & Museum Commission had a solicitation out for a long-term lease of the property, but no bids were received.

Peace Church, along with several other properties owned by PHMC, was identified by the commission for a new local stewardship model more than a decade ago. Since that time, PHMC has sought to identify a local steward willing to take ownership of the property while continuing to prioritize the preservation of and public access to the historic site.
“We thought there’s a lot of history there, and it really belongs in the hands of the state,” said Janice Lynx, director of the West Shore Historical Society. “It wasn’t anything against the church, it was against anybody who was going to come in and make the kind of changes and do the kind of things they would’ve had to do.
