Padres All-Star right fielder will hit live pitching in the next couple days; struggling right-hander optioned to Triple-A after rough stretch
The Padres’ Fernando Tatis Jr., shown here during a game against the Dodgers last month, is ramping up his baseball activity as he works to return from injury. Fernando Tatis Jr. did sprints in the outfield and played a robust game of catch from 120 feet Thursday afternoon. He will hit on the field against live pitching in the next two days.“He is definitely progressing to come back to play,” manager Mike Shildt said.
Thursday was the 62nd day the Padres have been without Tatis due to a stress fracture in his right femur . “They clearly feel like there has been enough healing and enough rest for him to progress to get his sprint work in and get back to baseball activities,” Shildt said.
