Blake Snell and Bob Melvin return to Petco Park as members of the Giants; Tyler Wade providing spark at bat, on the bases
Blake Snell spent Thursday morning shaking hands with and hugging Padres staffers and the teammates he came to know so well in three years in San Diego. At one point before Thursday's Petco Park opener, Manny Machado snuck up behind Snell for a bear hug. A late-spring signing by the Giants, Snell will continue his ramp-up to the season at the team's spring training facility in Scottsdale, Ariz. Bob Melvin, meanwhile, will be with the Giants throughout this weekend's series.
” Three games into the season, the man who made the team as a non-roster invitee to spring training has been in the middle of quite a bit. On Thursday, Tyler Wade was 1-for-3 with an RBI, his first steal of the season and a run scored. Overall, the Murrieta Valley High Schools product is 4-for-8 with two RBIs, a walk and three runs scored while starting all three games at third base. “I mean that’s always a good thing, right?” Wade said.
