Hezbollah has blamed Israel for Tuesday’s attacks, which killed nine people and injured thousands

Author and former BBC journalist Kim Ghattas has said that the pager explosions happened yesterday while she was on her way home from a funeral, 'so it was emotion after emotion and trauma after trauma'. She told BBC Radio 4's Today programme from Beirut that: 'It was really a scene of chaos across the city, because people didn't instantly understand what was happening.

It was really a national traumatic event.' She said that the attack was 'targeted in many ways' against Hezbollah operatives, but had severe consequences across the country. 'It's hard to see anyone else being behind this but Israel, and we are hearing reporting now that the Israeli defence minister had warned his American counterpart minutes before this was about to unfold.
