The award was dedicated to former superstore volunteer Charles Green who was 72 when he died from cancer on September 27 last year.

Dedicated Paisley volunteers have scooped a national award in recognition of their outstanding efforts to raise funds for life-saving cancer research.

Superstore manager Jane Dempster told the Paisley Daily Express: “I’m fortunate to work with the very best team of volunteers who go above and beyond every day. There is also a dedicated St Mirren section that will follow every kick of the ball with the Buddies.She added: “Charles Green was a great friend and a key member of our tight knit volunteering team. Now Charles’ widow Catherine has vowed to carry on her husband’s work by volunteering in the superstore. She told how her husband of almost 50 years retired from his career as a civil engineer after being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2016.

“We were heartbroken to lose him last September. At Charles’ funeral, the congregation raised £920 for Cancer Research UK. Now I have started to volunteer in the superstore which I know he would be delighted with and I know Charles would have been so proud to see the volunteers pick up this award.”
