Renfrewshire Council has confirmed the report will look at how the burn could potentially reduce flooding in the area while also creating new habitat for wildlife.
Efforts to reinstate part of Candren Burn in a bid to address a decades-long problem with flooding in Paisley's Ferguslie Park will get underway next year.
A Renfrewshire Council spokesperson said: “We fully acknowledge the concerns of communities regarding flooding and do everything in our power to reduce the risk of flooding. Download the free Renfrewshire Live app today Renfrewshire Live, the new free app dedicated to bringing you around the clock breaking news, is now available to download.
There is also a dedicated St Mirren section that will follow every kick of the ball with the Buddies.“It’s being developed as part of the place making work in Ferguslie which looks at how to develop vacant and underused land into community assets.”However, the route of the waterway was diverted some time ago and a section of the original water course filled in. This, many residents of Ferguslie Park argue, is one of the main reasons why the area has been blighted by flooding.
Terry McTernan, who chairs the Darkwood Crew and Ferguslie Park Community Council, said residents remain hopeful this study will find a long-term solution.
