Adam Johnson died after a cut to the neck during a game between Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers

Nottingham Panthers have released a fresh statement one year after the death of Adam Johnson . Ice hockey fans around the Elite Ice Hockey League paid tribute to the former Panthers forward as 47 seconds of applause was held at games around the country over the weekend.

Poignant scenes of remembrance were held at the Panthers' game against Manchester Storm on Sunday as fans wore memorial jerseys and held posters and placards remembering the American-born player. Johnson previously wore number 47 at the club and his shirt will be retired in his memory at a special ceremony before the team's game against Fife Flyers on December 14.

"Today, we will all spend time remembering the person he was and the impact he had on all our lives. Adam was not only an outstanding ice hockey player, but also a great team-mate and an incredible person. "It was poignant that Manchester, who joined us to celebrate his life in the Memorial Game last season, were with us on Sunday as we honoured Adam's memory with 47 seconds of applause. We'd also like to thank the other nine Elite League clubs for their tributes across the weekend on what was a difficult few days for so many staff, officials, players and supporters in the EIHL.
