British teacher Katharine Birbalsingh has expressed concern over a growing trend of parents and teachers preferring to be friends with children rather than being an “adult authority”.

“We as adults have abdicated authority and responsibility and children depend on us to push back and to show them the way, to guide them and lead them,” she told Sky News Australia host Piers Morgan.

“Unfortunately, I would say over the last 40 to 50 years, we have lost the whole concept of adult authority.”
