Staff at the cinema have been amazing in their support
Two parents were left heartbroken after their disabled children were verbally abused outside of a cinema. Film buffs Hugo Harvey and Mylo Westwood-Maguire, both 14, took a trip to Beeston's Arc Cinema to watch the newly released Ant-Man film on Wednesday, February 22, but their night was blighted by teens shouting discriminatory slurs at the two boys as they entered the venue.
"It's a really sorry state of affairs, it's not the 1980s anymore it's 2023, we should all matter and look out for each other. The boys both know that they have disabilities and they may look slightly different to somebody else - but I'm really proud they haven't let it stop them enjoying it." "It's not good for our children, or anybody else to get that abuse, luckily our children feel comfortable going back but some won't. It's the only socialising that Mylo can really do because he's not able to go bowling or anything like that because he's only mobile for short distances. It was always a safe place for them to go, but that time it wasn't and I was worried about the next time they went.
