Carl and Ruth Jackson took Maisie, Pippa, and Marley out of school to give them a 'more valuable education' with a life on the road.
A couple who sold their home and pulled their three kids out of school have opted for a life on the road to give their children a "more valuable education". Carl and Ruth Jackson, both 43, felt trapped during the Covid lockdowns and vowed to make the most of their freedom when it came.
Carl, who runs a signage business with his wife, said: “We had talked about going travelling since we’ve been together, but it’s one of those things you think you’ll do, but it never happens. I was the stumbling block, but one day Ruth just said, 'Let’s go'. And then I just thought, 'Why not?'. So off we went."
The family have also explored eastern Europe, as well as Greece and Italy. And their travels haven't stopped on the continent, having flown to Perth in Australia and Bali before returning. The pair homeschooled their children while driving around Europe and had help from their kids' previous school, which provided them with online learning resources. Carl said: “We arranged a meeting with the headteacher of our kids’ school and were waiting to be told off by him. He was surprisingly absolutely supportive, he even said he had done something similar.
Top UK & World stories today The pinnacle of the dream trip for Marley was meeting legendary actor Tom Cruise, who signed the youngster's Top Gun T-shirt after a chance meeting during their stay in Rome.
