Families who pay out and claim Universal Credit childcare costs are to see a difference to their payments from today

Many parents who claim Universal Credit will be £109 better off a month from today. The Department for Work and Pensions has confirmed that from Monday 8 April, some parents who claim the government benefit will be eligible for an extra cash boost.Alongside other benefits that are increasing from today, Universal Credit childcare costs will rise for any working parents of under 17s.

The government’s website confirms: ‘If you pay for childcare while you go to work, Universal Credit can pay some of your childcare costs. Before today, parents who claimed the costs back were given up to £950 a month on top of their Universal Credit payment if they had one child, and up to £1,630 for two or more children.

Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride said: ‘This big boost to childcare support will help even more parents step into the world of work and secure long-term financial security.
