Parents’ tribute to ‘shining light’ daughter, 21, who took her own life days after getting Covid
“Like a lot of parents who are in this position, the common denominator is you never expect your child to take that course of action.”
The inquest was told she was hit hard by the loss of her grandparents when she was 13 but had "started to focus on life again" in the months leading up to her death. Sinead had just finished her second year at Staffordshire University and hoped to eventually go on to Cambridge to do a master’s. She had originally dreamed of becoming a lawyer but decided she wanted to help turn round the lives of former prisoners.
The kind student also set up a podcast with a friend during the pandemic where they talked about positive ways to improve mental health.It doesn't discriminate, touching the lives of people in every corner of society - from the homeless and unemployed to builders and doctors, reality stars and footballers.Yet it's rarely spoken of, a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage unless we all stop and take notice, now.
