The 31-year-old athlete will compete in her fourth Olympic games in Paris
Excitement is building as the Paris Olympics gets underway today. The opening ceremony for the 2024 games starts at 7.30pm local time when the first boats depart from the Austerlitz bridge in the French capital. This will kickstart another memorable edition of the iconic event, which runs until August 11. Across the next two weeks, there are many talented people from Merseyside who will be competing for a medal.
Johnson-Thompson has fought back to take gold in the World Athletics Championships in 2023 and is thrilled she is fit for the 2024 games. She said: 'All I want to do is get to the start line healthy and get the chance I never got three or four years ago. 'I don’t really care what happens, I just want to have that chance. That’s all I’m fighting for this summer, is to be on the start line healthy and able to put out the performance that I’m capable of at the time.
