Former Auburn gymnast Suni Lee captured the second Olympic gold medal of her career on Tuesday afternoon.
After helping Team USA women’s gymnastics to its first Olympic gold medal in team competition since the 2016 Rio Olympics, former Auburn gymnast Suni Lee secured the second Olympic gold medal of her career on Tuesday from Paris’ Bercy Arena.On Tuesday, Lee was set to compete on the uneven bars, balance beam and floor, meaning she was forced to sit and wait during the first rotation as Team USA started on vault.
Lee ended up falling off the uneven bars during her warmup, but brushed it off quickly and put together a Team USA-leading score of 14.566. And while following a fall is never easy as they are sometimes considered “contagious,” Lee made sure that wasn’t the case and strung together a near-flawless routine, finishing with a score of 14.600.
In what felt like a victory-lap-of-a-final rotation on floor, Lee finished up her brilliant day with a 13.533 before carrying the American flag across the floor alongside Simone Biles as gold medalists once again.
