FIFA will commandeer the grass car parks usually used by attendees of football matches at Allianz Stadium.
Football administrators FIFA have reserved the grass car parks at Moore Park for staff and official business during the Women’s World Cup, prompting fears of traffic chaos when the tournament begins this week.
Roads Minister John Graham warned of significant traffic delays, especially in the hours before weeknight matches that clash with the evening peak, and said people should leave their cars at home, arrive early and entertain themselves at venues near the stadium precincts. “Clearly there will be some chaos. When there’s a major event on, people park illegally all over the place, across driveways, you name it,” he said. “I don’t expect it will be dramatically worse than other major football matches.”There are normally about 5000 event parking spaces in the Moore Park precinct, including 2100 on the two grass sites off Driver Avenue, 2000 at the Entertainment Quarter and 750 at Sydney Boys/Girls High School.
