Preston City Council warns visitors about fake QR codes on parking machines leading to scam websites.

Preston Council have warned visitors over parking scams in the city centre. The body have warned people to be vigilant when paying for parking in the area and to double check what they are paying for. Patrolling officers have identified a number of fake QR codes on parking machines in the area. This means that when people pay for their parking on their phones, they may be taken to a scam website. These will be next to the legitimate ones on pay and display parking machines.

Preston City Council's full post states: 'Parking scam alert. Please be vigilant when paying for parking in Preston city centre. 'Our patrolling officers have located and removed a number of fake QR codes from pay and display machines at more than one car park in the city centre. 'If you are paying through the app, please ensure that you are using the correct app and do not scan any QR codes that have been added to the pay and display machines.'
