There are growing concerns about whether the fleet of future frigates will meet the navy's requirements.

abc.net.au/news/parliament-scrutinises-problems-45-billion-warship-project/102832248The company building Australia's future frigates insists the complex $45 billion project still meets the navy's requirements and design problems involving weight were not hidden from the government.

"I think we're doing the right thing for the nation and the navy is going to get an amazing capability at the end of this," Mr Hudson told the committee hearing in Canberra. "Any adjustments to the ship to accommodate systems that have been fitted to it we understand still meet the requirements of the navy in terms of range, speed, payloads."

Despite repeated questioning, Mr Hudson declined to publicly reveal the current projected "top weight" of the Hunter-class frigate, or its parent design, Britain's new Type 26 warship insisting the Department of Defence would have to release the figures. "The industrial base of course is such a critical part of our sovereign capabilities," he said in remarks supported by Liberal senator and former defence minister Linda Reynolds.

While taking the question on notice he responded: "You can imagine a company like BAE, like every other major defence company in Australia is a constant target."
